Why is virginity such a problem for some people?
I was talking about it with someone, and mentioned that I am 19 years old and still a virgin. Not because of religious reasons or anything, just because I feel like I have yet to find someone worthy of sleeping with.
The person told me that since I am not ugly, nor religious, then there must be something else “wrong with me.” That I am pretty much a freak. They almost made me cry in public.
Our society baffles me sometimes. I do not think I am a freak, yet this reaction is something I get very often.
I didn’t have sex until I was in my 20s. I was cute, non-religious, and completely down with the idea of sex. I just hadn’t met many guys I was interested in prior to, and the only one that I had (we dated for almost a year) didn’t believe in sex before marriage.
Lots of people, for lots of reasons, don’t have sex until they’re older. It doesn’t make you a freak. The freak is the person who is overly concerned about whether or not you’ve had sex. You don’t seem to feel like you’re missing out, so why should they care?
Awww, I hate nothing more than a girl being made to feel like there’s something wrong with her because she isn’t like everyone else. I know it’s hard to be confident and proud of your uniqueness when you’re 19, but as you grow up you realize that all those “everyone elses” out there totally suck, and the independent, quirky people are the ones worth knowing and becoming. Be strong, ladies!
