Menino offers loan to keep Banner afloat - The Boston Globe

The City of Boston will offer to loan the Bay State Banner up to $200,000 to keep the cash-strapped weekly newspaper from shutting down permanently, Mayor Thomas M. Menino said last night.

This is interesting. I do believe newspapers should survive this economy, and help from the government may be the only solution in the short term, but does this unlikely marriage create a sticky conflict of interests? I don’t know.
